The BitDefender virus analysis team has implemented generic signature

The BitDefender virus analysis team has implemented generic signature detection for known virus strains.

New viruses stemming from known strains will be detected quicker by use of a strain-specific signature, rather than a virus-specific one.

The culling of the redundant virus signature database entries will bring further improvements in performance by reducing memory use.

The first stage of the optimization process will decrease the size of the signature database by some 15000 entries.
This process will continue, so you may expect the number of database entries to drop further, while maintaining the 100% ITW virus detection rate.
